About the Event

Yalda is the Iranian festival of the winter solstice, the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere (happening on December 21 or 22 every year), and an ancient celebration of the victory of light over darkness.

On Yalda Night, Iranians set a table with fruits of red colour (like pomegranates and watermelon), dried nuts, sweets and a book of poetry by Hafez of Shiraz (Iran's most famous lyric poet of the 14th Century CE). It is a great night of gathering, music, poem reading and fun.

Join us on Saturday 14th of December for this evening of festivities, Persian food, traditional music and dance on the beautiful Matilda Bay foreshore!
